Weight Reduction Treatment
What is it?
A very effective weight loss method is now being offered by Dr Rees Cameron at Wakefield Hospital.
Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG) is a minimally invasive procedure that helps people lose weight by reducing the size of the stomach. During ESG, a doctor uses an endoscope—a thin, flexible tube with a camera and stitching tools—inserted through the mouth and down into the stomach. Using the endoscope, the doctor places a series of stitches along the stomach to make it smaller and change its shape, creating a ‘sleeve.’ This limits the amount of food your stomach can hold, which helps you feel full more quickly and can lead to significant weight loss over time.
ESG does not involve any cuts or incisions, so recovery is usually quicker than with traditional surgery, and the risk of complications is lower. This procedure can be a great option for people looking to lose weight without undergoing major surgery, and it’s typically done on an outpatient basis, meaning you can go home the same day. However, like any weight loss procedure, ESG is most effective when combined with a healthy diet and regular exercise.
Do I need it?
Treatment for excess weight needs to be tailored to each person since weight gain can happen for many reasons and eating patterns vary widely.
ESG is suitable for some people, but not everyone. During your consultation, Dr. Cameron will review your medical history, eating habits, and weight loss goals to determine if ESG is right for you, or if other options might be better.
It’s recommended that you meet with a FoodSavvy dietitian before your appointment with Dr Cameron to help guide the discussion and understand the follow-up needed to achieve the best results.
